As we find ourselves in the Month of Safar, the second month of the Islamic Calendar, we look into the insights and traditions of the pious of the Ummah regarding this month.
Traditionally, Safar has been regarded as a month in which it is believed that the trials and tribulations destined for the rest of the year descend and are apportioned among the coming months. However, this does not mean that the month itself is evil, or inauspicious. When a person spends their time in obedience, that time is blessed. When they spend their time in disobedience, that time is a cause of loss for a person.
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “(There is) no ‘Adwa (no contagious disease is conveyed without Allah’s permission). nor is there any bad omen (from birds), nor is there any Hamah, nor is there any bad omen in the month of Safar, and one should run away from the leper as one runs away from a lion.”
Therefore, one must still act, take the means, and seek Allah’s protection from tribulations.
What is the best way to do this?
The best way to do this is to give Sadaqah.
“….the Messenger of Allah said: “Indeed charity extinguishes the Lord’s anger and it protects against the evil death.”
