What is Rabi al-Awwal?
Rabi al-Awwal marks the month in which The Prophet Muhammed ﷺ was born. Even though Rabi al-Awwal may fall outside of spring due to the Hijri calendar, it is considered the first spring for Muslims. Rabi al-Awwal marks the end to a period of sadness (winter) and transition into a happier time of spring. This is representative of the events that occurred in the year The Prophet ﷺ was born (the year of the elephant), followed by the miracles which occurred, surrounding his ﷺ blessed birth. Although we are entering into autumn, maybe this autumn will in fact be your spring and breathe a new life into your relationship with Allah!
Seeking Allah's blessings in Rabi al-Awwal
Rabi al-Awwal is the perfect time to connect ourselves back to following the Sunnah and reflecting the noble character of The Prophet Muhammed ﷺ . By studying the Seerah, we can increase in awareness of how The Prophet ﷺ embodied The Qur’an through navigating life’s ups and downs. Increasing in the Dhikr of Allah to draw closer to Him during this month, brings lightness into our hearts and a rejuvenation of faith.
Reviving The Sunnah in Rabi al-Awwal
An excellent way to draw closer to Allah during this month is to revive the Sunnah. “Know that whoever revives a tradition from my Sunnah if it has died out after me, he will have a reward like those who act upon it without diminishing any of their rewards…” – Tirmidhi
This Rabi al-Awal revive the Sunnah of caring for the orphan. Tragically, the Ummah has more orphaned children year upon year due to the increasing intensity of conflict and genocide in Muslim lands.
The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this’, and he ﷺ held his two fingers together to illustrate. [Bukhari]
Revive specialises in giving bread to orphan communities, ensuring that orphan children know where their next meal is coming from. You can send bread to Syria, Gaza or donate into the general orphan fund to help an orphaned child today, with the intention of reviving a Sunnah of The Prophet ﷺ !
