Bosnia and Herzegovina — Our Long Term Projects

The history of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been shaped by conflict and recovery, particularly following the Bosnian War. This war caused widespread destruction, loss of life, and long-term economic instability. Infrastructure, industries, and communities were severely damaged, leaving many areas struggling with poverty and limited opportunities even decades later.

This is where long-term initiatives, such as those delivered by Revive Darul Arqam, which can have a meaningful impact. Rather than short-term relief, sustainable projects such as food package distribution, self-sustaining agriculture, project self-sustaining medical project and self-sustaining mosque project can help rebuild self-sufficiency. For example, investing in strawberry farms or providing medical centres with essential equipment can create jobs, stabilise food access, and empower communities economically. By focusing on long-term development rather than temporary aid, Revive Darul Arqam’s approach can support Bosnia in continuing its recovery, strengthening resilience, and reducing dependency on external support over time.

CT Scanner

A CT Scanner is a very important piece of medical imaging equipment and it is typically used in hospitals and specialist medical centres to help produce thorough images of the body. It is normally found in departments such as A&E, radiology, oncology and surgical planning units. When the CT Scanners are used within A&E, it is normally for quickly diagnosing a serious injury or condition such as head injuries or aftermath of strokes where fast decisions can be the difference between life or death. In departments such as the radiology department, they can help with the investigation of symptoms that may be hard to explain and they can also help give a clearer picture of the problem as opposed to standard X-ray. In oncology, they can help to detect types of cancers and monitoring them by showing the size of the tumour and how for it may be spreading.

One of our many long-term sustainable projects include providing local communities in Bosnia in particular, the area of Poliklinika Hadžimejlić in Busovača with medical equipment. Revive Darul Arqam are currently focussing on CT Scanners. This would allow medical professionals to deliver delivering vital imaging across multiple specialties, improving early diagnosis, and enabling life-saving care for thousands in the local community.

Strawberry Farms

Uploaded

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, strawberry farms represent a way for sustainable agriculture that helps support the locals by growing and selling fresh produce to those within the community and wider markets. The strawberry farms provide employment opportunities especially to those in rural areas where employment can be limited there and help strengthen local food production. However, many small farms face difficulties like limited equipment or not enough income. The strawberry farm would also provide training to workers as they would be able to learn modern agricultural techniques which would help improve the productivity of the farmers and improve their food quality over sustained period of time.

By investing into the strawberry farm as a form for long term aid, Revive Darul Arqam would help communities become more self-sufficient again as they would be able to used the produce from the farm to sell and provide jobs to people in the local community, it would reduce reliance on assistance from others. It will strengthen the local food production and allow for a sustainable business model which would continue to benefit long after it is invested into.

Food Packages

As part of this drive, 400 humanitarian food packages were distributed across the areas of Banja Luka, Jajce, Banovici, Zenica and Kacuni to provide support to the vulnerable individuals and families. Every parcel had been designed to feed an average family of five for around one month, this had helped provide around 50,000 meals overall. The packages had essential everyday items within them including those such as oil, sugar, flour, salt, pasta, juice, soup, tomato sauce, coffee, beef stew, pate, spices and other staple foods of the Bosnian diet and needed for basic nutrition. The aid had been distributed to provide families facing economic hardship, cost of living crisis and lack of employment opportunities an access to reliable food supplies and support during times of hardship.

Bosnia Masjid

Upon the aftermath of the Bosnian War, lot of the Muslims communities in the rural areas continue to face poverty, isolation and scarce access to the essential services and places where they can worship. Through this project, Revive Darul Arqam are aiming to build a mosque in Solakovići-Busovača Rural, central Bosnia. Mountainous Terrain to help the Bosnian Muslims in the area to revive their spiritual and communal wellbeing. the masjid will not only serve as a place to act upon their prayer but also allow for it to be a place of Islamic education and community support for those healing from the aftermath of the war. Revive Darul Arqam’s vision is to bring communities back together and support them through long term sustainability through agricultural and community development projects.

The mosque project is designed to have a lasting impact on the local community by allowing for accommodation up to 1,200 worshippers within a 940 square metre space spread across two floors. This development will have key facilities such as prayer areas, ablution areas, classrooms and community areas to support local families and children. By giving the people of the community, a dedicated place to worship and come together as a community, it will create a stronger sense of unity, spiritual growth and give the Muslims living in rural Bosnia a sense of long-term support.
