What are the challenges facing Muslims in Bosnia?

Although Muslims in Bosnia feel that the rest of the world has forgotten, scars left by the war in Bosnia are very much fresh. In recent weeks, we have seen a rise in those denying the genocide in Bosnia, denying the events of Srebrenica.

Upon our visit to Bosnia, something became clear, that each Muslim family in Bosnia knows of a member of their family or neighbour who was murdered in the war. These were not armed soldiers, they were unarmed civilians, harmed by their trust that “they will not hurt us”.

Aside from economical challenges faced in a poor, rural region attempting to recover from the aftermath of a bloody war, the mental health of Muslims in Bosnia suffer, as trauma and lack of closure create a vicious circle of suffering.
